ON LOCATION AT THE 2007 SEC TOURNEY: DAY THREE RECAP
May 26, 2007

Day One Recap | Day Two Recap

SCS.comAfter two full days of action that went from about 10 in the morning to midnight, Friday was a light day of activity at the 2007 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama. SCS.com is on location at the event, which saw South Carolina and Vanderbilt survive elimination games and advance to Saturday's action. Florida and Tennessee were sent home, the Gators for good thanks to their now losing record. The Vols, meanwhile, will await their fate when NCAA selections are handed out Monday. On Saturday, USC will battle Arkansas, while Vandy will take on Mississippi. Both the Gamecocks and Commodores need to wins to advance to Sunday's title game.

Cisco, Gamecocks Too Much for Gators in 5-3 Win

Despite committing 3 errors, South Carolina won a close game against Florida at Regions Park. With a record of 29-30, the Gators are now ineligible for the NCAA Tournament. Matt LaPorta hit his 20th homerun of the year on a 2 run shot to left center in the first inning.

The story of the game was Gamecock pitcher Mike Cisco, who stuck out 8 batters in 7 innings while allowing only 2 runs. Jeff Jeffords picked up the save for the Gamecocks, who will now have to beat Arkansas twice to advance to the championship game.

Commodore Bats, Minor's Pitching Eliminates Vols

Behind a stellar pitching performance from freshman lefty Mike Minor along with 16 hits, #1 Vandy defeated instate rival Tennessee by a score of 15-2. Dominic de la Osa recorded 3 hits while Pedro Alvarez had 4, including 3 doubles. Minor pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits along with 8 strikeouts.

For Tennessee, it's questionable as to whether or not the Vols will make the NCAA Tourney. On Monday morning, the Vols will know their fate. Tennessee starter Nick Hernandez went only 1.1 innings, a day after starter Craig Cobb recorded only 1 out. Vandy will play Ole Miss tomorrow, needing to beat them twice to make it to the championship game on Sunday.
