REGIONAL PROJECTION #5
May 18, 2006

SCS.comThis is the final week of the regular season, and championships are still to be decided. This weekend is what college baseball is about, while next week the major conference tournaments start and the field of 64 will be decided. This season has almost come and gone, so fans should get out and support their team for the final weekend.

Many teams have set the woods on fire this year while others have fizzled, but one team has been steady all along. That team is the Rice Owls, and they will be the #1 national seed. The Conference USA Tournament may not be won by the Owls, but they have established themselves as the most consistent team in the country.

This week sleeper teams will arise. Teams that can win a conference tournament always have solid staffs, and that is what it takes to go to Omaha and win in Omaha. Teams like Kentucky have already punched their ticket to a national seed, so they will not be as willing to stress their players and staff. A team such as Vanderbilt can win the SEC Tournament because of their pitching and may have to make such a run to secure an NCAA invite.

Though this season is close to over, the best is yet to come!
